Gilgit in the centre of Gilgit-Baltistan province, is the capital of the province and the starting point for trips to the Gilgit and Hunza Valleys, which run west and north respectively and lies on the Karakoram Highway, the modern road following a branch of the fabled Silk route between China and the West. You can also trek south to Nanga Parbat and Kaghan from here. Compared to Baltistan, this area is more populated and prosperous, the scenery is superb and greener and gentler, and you will find the people kinder and more hospitable. Gilgit is a unique place on earth where world’s three greatest ranges of Himalaya, Karakoram and Hindu Kush meet with each other.Gilgit Valley has got a big variety of treks, especially the Naltar Valley.
